"Ultimately, I just like making a difference to the industry, and solving customers' problems." This is the driving force behind Valmiki Frankstan-Paul's work as the Sales & Engineering Manager at Rooks Oilfield & Eng Supplies Ltd, a key distributor for Rochem FYREWASH® in Trinidad and Tobago. With 8 years of experience working with Rochem FYREWASH® products, Valmiki is dedicated to delivering effective solutions that meet the unique needs of each customer. In his day-to-day role, Valmiki provides "technical and managerial oversight to the Inside Applications Engineering team, the Project Engineering team (which is a cross-functional team of engineers, technicians and service staff), and the Sales Team who are front facing with the customer." He also directly manages supplier relationships and supports the Service Department and QHSE team with engineering advice. It's a diverse role that allows him to make a tangible impact across the organization. One of Valmiki's proudest achievements was successfully diversifying the business into steam boiler products and service work, which allowed them to gain a much greater market share in the food and beverage industry. "One of our single largest product sales happened on the 2nd year of taking on this line, and to date, this type of work has dominated our service mix," he shares. "This is a complete departure from our core competence of rotating equipment, so it has been both rewarding and challenging developing the key players in the company to successfully deliver this type of work." For Valmiki, job satisfaction comes from making a difference and solving customers' problems, particularly the difficult ones. "I particularly enjoy customers with difficult problems as when they are satisfied, it means the work that went into it was not only effective, but creative and truly had meaning. It helps if we both benefit mutually also." He adds, "I have been in the industry a long time, and after passing through many phases, ultimately, being impactful becomes the end goal." When he's not tackling complex engineering challenges, Valmiki enjoys a wide range of hobbies, including hiking, running, cycling, racquet sports, weightlifting, horology, astrophotography, and ornithology.
