A recent article from GasTurbineHub highlighted a statistic that caught our attention. More than 550 GW of the global gas turbine fleet is now over 20 years old, representing around 27% of installed capacity worldwide. Looking at the regional breakdown, the average gas turbine in the Americas is now 23.2 years old, while Europe's fleet averages 21.7 years. With so much focus on new generation projects, it's easy to overlook just how much of today's electricity supply still depends on assets that have been operating for decades. As electricity demand continues to grow, keeping those assets available, efficient and reliable remains an important part of the picture. It's an interesting read from GasTurbineHub and one that reinforces a message we're hearing more often across the industry: existing power generation assets remain critical to keeping the lights on.
