Yesterday I returned to work after an amazing year of paternity leave after the birth of my second daughter. It was privilege to spend the year with my wife and our two young children. We survived, bonded, travelled, and learned. This was only possible thanks to the forward thinking family policies of Capgemini and the total support I received from Alex Slater, Paul Dixon, Matt Pound, Mike Forster, Nada Svilar, Akshay Patel..... The most memorable conversation I had during the course of the year was with my mother-in-law (although to be fair most conversations I had was with a two year old). Not only did I discover that she had a career in technology that I was unaware of, but that she was part of the founding of the French IT Services Industry (the industry that has shaped my career), and indeed was a female pioneer. The conversation raised interesting points about career opportunity, technology advancement, inclusion, and life-balance. I have captured the conversation in this article.
