I’ve just returned home after a week at the 19th edition of the University of Palermo Summer School on Migrants, Human Rights, and Democracy — and what an inspiring trip it has been! 🌍✨ Over the past week, we’ve had the privilege of engaging in thought-provoking discussions and sharing of personal experiences, all while exploring the beautiful city of Palermo. Many thanks therefore, among others, to: marco codispoti– For an enriching explanation on the process of rebuilding policing systems in post-war regions. Miresi Busana – For her powerful insights into the working of the German peace service on non-violent conflict resolution Claudia Candelmo – For challenging us to think critically about the role of international law in contemporary conlifcts And also to the wonderful Elisabetta Di Giovanni and massimiliano schirinzi at the Università degli studi di Palermo for their gracious hospitality, and to the Centro Diaconale "La Noce" - Istituto Valdese for welcoming us into their refugee center of which I was very impressed. Last but not least to my colleagues, student assistants Giuseppe Antonio D'Emma Marcano, Flavia La Corte and Tia Vincentie who guided us every step of the way, both in- and outside of the University, and all attendees for sharing their personal insights and making this trip shine 💫 This experience has been a moving reminder of the importance of critical inquiry and subsequent action in defense of human rights, and an endeavor I will not soon forget. #Migration #HumanRights #Democracy #SummerSchool #UniversityOfPalermo #RefugeesWelcome #SocialJustice
