Alumni Spotlight: Dr. Amrit Raj (RMIT School of Engineering, Class of 2025). "The RMIT-AcSIR Joint Research Program transformed me into a more confident and versatile researcher, equipping me with global exposure, advanced technical expertise and the ability to translate research into real-world applications." 🌏 Dr Raj’s research focuses on stainless steel–aluminum bimetallic structures via additive manufacturing, addressing challenges of brittle intermetallic formation. He began his work at CSIR-Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI) under the supervision of Dr Manidipto Mukherjee, and Dr. Dilpreet Singh. At RMIT University, under the guidance and support of Dr Dong Qiu, Dr Maciej Mazur and Dr Jayshri Dumbre, and with access to state of the art facilities at RCAM, RMMF and MNRF, he developed expertise in process optimisation and microstructural engineering and delivered high quality research work 🔬. ✅ RCAM - https://lnkd.in/gm_bbxSF ✅ RMMF - https://lnkd.in/gXgF58qB ✅ MNRF - https://lnkd.in/gcFmFyU4 Dr Raj published in leading journals including Journal of Materials Science and Technology and Current Opinion in Solid State and Materials Science, and contributed to interdisciplinary research on biomedical implants with Distinguished Professor Suresh Bhargava, Distinguished Professor Milan Brandt, and Prof. Peter Choong AO which was published in Progress in Materials Science 📚. During his time in Australia, Dr Raj visited iconic destinations such as the Great Ocean Road, Grampians National Park, Puffing Billy Railway and Ballarat, and attended a conference at the University of Queensland 🎤. These experiences made his time here more memorable and allowed him to see more of Australia beyond the lab and connect with the wider academic community. He shared his appreciation of Melbourne as a safe, welcoming and multicultural city to live and study in ✨. Following his Phd journey, he joined the mPragati at IIT Delhi as a Senior Project Scientist where he led work in additive manufacturing for biomedical applications. Dr Raj is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at AJAY KUMAR GARG ENGINEERING COLLEGE, GHAZIABAD, India 🏫. Dr Raj expresses his sincere gratitude for the strong support throughout his PhD journey from his supervisors and colleagues, which made his time in both Australia and India highly productive and truly enriching. His PhD journey through the RMIT-AcSIR Joint Research Program reflects its broader impact in shaping globally capable researchers and future academic leaders 🌟.
