🎓 PhD Journey: A Student Story – Surya Kanta Ghadei (RMIT School of Engineering) Starting a PhD at CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT) through the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) PhD Program was a proud milestone in Surya’s academic journey. That journey took another exciting turn when he was selected for the RMIT-AcSIR Joint Research Program, a transformative opportunity that allowed him to conduct research under joint supervision in India and Australia 🌏. Through this experience, Surya gained valuable international research exposure, worked within advanced scientific facilities, and engaged with diverse research cultures and collaborations. While moving overseas initially came with uncertainty and challenges, it soon became one of the most rewarding and enriching experiences of his PhD journey ✨. Surya’s research focused on developing bio inspired multifunctional nanostructured materials for environmental remediation, oil water separation, sensing, and wearable applications. Working in world class laboratories including the Micro Nano Research Facility (MNRF) and the Functional Materials and Microsystems (FMM) research group at RMIT University significantly strengthened his experimental expertise, problem solving skills, and interdisciplinary research approach 🔬. ✅ Featured article: https://lnkd.in/gNMURVSG Exposure to advanced characterisation facilities and collaborative discussions with researchers from diverse scientific backgrounds further shaped his growth as an independent researcher. During his time in Melbourne, Surya also had the opportunity to engage with the international research community through conferences in Japan and Sydney. These experiences broadened his academic perspective and strengthened his confidence in communicating research on a global stage. Beyond research, living in Melbourne offered valuable personal growth through diverse cultural experiences and unforgettable memories 🫶. Surya expresses sincere gratitude to his supervisors and mentor, Dr Md. Ataur Rahman, Prof Sharath Sriram, Prof Ramaswamy Sakthivel and Distinguished Prof Madhu Bhaskaran FTSE for their continuous guidance, support, and scientific insights throughout his PhD journey. He also expresses his heartfelt gratitude to Distinguished Prof Suresh Bhargava, Prof Manoj Dhar, and Prof RAMANUJ NARAYAN for their visionary leadership in establishing and strengthening the RMIT-AcSIR Joint Research Program, creating valuable global research opportunities for students. He also thanks Tae Kim for continuous support, encouragement and smooth coordination throughout the program. Through the RMIT-AcSIR Joint Research Program, Surya advanced his scientific capabilities and developed the confidence and global outlook to contribute to the international research community. Surya is currently in the final stage of his PhD and we wish him all the best with his thesis submission 📚. CSIR India #AcSIRJointPhD
