For more than nine decades, this massive company had never been led by a woman. Then, history was made. Meet 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘆𝗮 𝗡𝗮𝗶𝗿, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗘𝗢 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 Hindustan Unilever (HUL). You may not think about HUL every day. But you probably use its products every day, like Dove, Surf Excel, Lifebuoy, Rin, Lux, and many more. Its brands 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝘀. But Priya Nair’s journey to the top did not happen overnight. She grew up in a middle-class family and watched her mother, a doctor, run a small clinic in Mumbai where patients paid whatever they could afford. That experience taught her an important lesson early in life: 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗲. In 1995, after completing her MBA, Priya joined HUL. And she stayed. For the 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝟯𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀, she worked across consumer insights, sales, marketing and leadership. She built brands. She led major business divisions. She accepted bigger responsibilities. And she kept showing up, even when nobody was watching. No overnight fame. No viral success story. Just 𝟯𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀. On August 1, 2025, she finally took charge as HUL’s first woman CEO and Managing Director. Today, she leads one of India’s largest consumer-goods companies, a business whose products are present in nearly every Indian home. Social media often celebrates young founders who become successful overnight. Those stories are inspiring.
