I'm excited to be implementing mastery-based grading in my Linear Algebra course this summer. From my experience, a critical hurdle with this system is articulating its structure to students who have never seen it before. For them to succeed, they must first understand how to strategically approach the course. My previous attempts to explain it using text descriptions or spreadsheets weren't satisfying. Believing that a picture is worth a thousand words, I've designed a flowchart to visually guide students through the course. I would value your perspective: If you had no or little prior knowledge of this grading approach, would this visual give you the gist of how to navigate the course? For those who have been using this approach, your suggestions for improvement would be really appreciated!
