Developing fit-for-purpose, global and pragmatic regulatory solutions on decarbonization towards zero emissions is a clear urgency for the entire maritime industry. IMO’s MEPC meetings are the right place to discuss the different proposals to reach net-zero and to come out with substantial and workable regulations. It is essential solution. This is an essential to make progress and move in one direction globally. Digitalization is another key part of the scenario. No matter the specific technology, before jumping into any technical solution, a pragmatic approach is critical: focus on the problem to address, offer the crews the level of training and capability they need, and put data into daily use to increase energy efficiency and support decarbonisation goals safely and responsibly. Shipping industry has proven that it is able to solve challenges, adapt to new regulations and remain resilient. Current challenges, such as environmental and geopolitical issues, can be addressed in the same way as done in the past: stay focused, be solution-oriented, technology open and move forward towards our green future.
