Excited to share our new publication in the Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry! šŸŽ‰ In this work, led by Devendra Yadav and supervised by Prof. Michael Shoham Patrascu, we investigated the impact of mass-transport limitations on plate-type Pd membrane reactors for on-board hydrogen production via methanol steam reforming. This study represents another step toward our broader vision of developing modular autothermal systems for on-board hydrogen production. Using a detailed CFD framework, we analyzed millimeter-scale membrane reactors and demonstrated how reactor geometry affects concentration polarization, membrane utilization, and overall hydrogen production performance. Our results show that reducing channel dimensions can significantly mitigate mass transfer limitations, providing valuable design guidelines for compact and efficient membrane reactors for distributed hydrogen generation. Many thanks to my co-authors and collaborators for their contributions to this work. šŸ“„ The full paper is available with open access: https://lnkd.in/dGMkAzrF #Hydrogen #ChemicalEngineering #MembraneReactors #CFD #ProcessIntensification #MethanolReforming #CleanEnergy #FuelCells #Research
