Head of Audio, MUBI

All us '80s kids grew up with glossy dance-pop like The Pet Shop Boys... but it was only years later that I really listened, and got the depths of what was going on in that music. On today's MUBI Podcast I got to talk to genius director Andrew Haigh about his gorgeous 2023 tearjerker ALL OF US STRANGERS... how he deployed PSB, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, and Fine Young Cannibals to heartbreaking effect... and about how dear all that stuff was to gay men in the middle of a plague. It's a moving conversation that then gets super fun, as us two nerds start geeking out about '80s alt-pop — including one of my favorite bands: The Housemartins. Hope all my fellow nu-wavers go listen wherever pods are cast. And thanks again as always to the folks who help put this show together: Michael Tacca, Ciara McEniff, Kat Kowalczyk, Martin Austwick, Jackson Musker, Stephen A Colón, with another assist this week from David Harper! https://lnkd.in/gJ4uhcHk
