As International Women in Engineering Day begins, we're shining a spotlight on the next generation of engineering talent at Rheinmetall UK. Meet Lily-Mae, an Engineering Apprentice whose passion for problem-solving, design and innovation has already set her on an exciting path within the industry. Lily’s interest in engineering began at a young age through a shared enthusiasm for engineering and design with her dad. Inspired by his career journey and driven by a desire to understand how things work, she developed a passion for finding practical solutions and creating new ideas. After completing her A-Levels, Lily chose to pursue an apprenticeship, allowing her to gain valuable hands-on experience while continuing to learn and develop her skills. Drawn to the defence sector through her interest in military vehicles, aircraft and engineering technology, she joined Rheinmetall UK to begin her engineering career. Since starting her apprenticeship, Lily has been developing her skills across the business, particularly within the Product Assurance team and in Computer Aided Design (CAD), an area she is especially passionate about. She is enjoying the opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues, build her professional network and gain experience across a range of engineering disciplines. For Lily, International Women in Engineering Day is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women across the profession and recognise the importance of visible role models. She believes that sharing experiences and highlighting different career paths can encourage more young women to consider engineering as a future career. Lily said: “Don’t let stereotypes or expectations stop you from pursuing something you enjoy. Engineering offers so many different opportunities and there’s no single route into the industry. Most importantly, have confidence in yourself and your abilities. If it’s something you’re passionate about, nothing and no one can stop you.” As she continues her apprenticeship, Lily is looking forward to taking on new challenges, expanding her skills and helping shape the future of engineering. #InternationalWomenInEngineeringDay #RheinmetallUK #WomenInEngineering #EngineeringLife #Innovation #INWED #Rheinmetall #CSIstories #respect #trust #openness
