Today, reStart celebrated a milestone years in the making as we officially cut the ribbon on our first upStart Affordable Housing Duplexes. Designed with the future in mind, these energy-efficient homes feature thoughtful construction and site improvements that support long-term affordability. With estimated utility costs of just $1,200 annually, these homes help create greater financial stability while providing a safe, quality place to call home. These duplexes represent more than new housing. They represent opportunity, stability, and a continued investment in creating pathways to stable housing for individuals and families in Kansas City. This project would not have been possible without the incredible partners who believed in this vision from the very beginning. Thank you to Congressman Emanuel Cleaver for securing Community Project Funding that helped make this development possible. We are grateful to Lenny Jurden, Dave Anderson, and Angela M. Morehead for their leadership throughout the project, and to our architect, William Trakas of Trakas and Trakas, for helping transform an idea into a reality. Thank you to the Indian Mound Neighborhood for welcoming us from day one, and to Matt Hendrickson and Capital Builders for bringing these homes to life with exceptional craftsmanship and dedication. To everyone who joined us to celebrate today, thank you for being part of this exciting chapter. Together, we are creating more pathways to stable housing and building a stronger Kansas City, one home at a time.
