Our Foothills Organics Transfer Station is now open! As Jefferson County’s first organics preprocessing transfer station, the facility uses a trommel screen to remove contaminants from collected material, resulting in cleaner organic streams for our compost facility — serving more than 150,000 homes and businesses while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and keeping organic waste out of the landfill. The facility was developed in partnership with Colorado Circular Communities (C3) Enterprise and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to advance Colorado's Statewide Organics Management Plan. Across our national network of 25 organics facilities, we process more than 2 billion pounds of food and yard waste annually — and Foothills is the latest step in expanding that capacity and building a more circular economy for the communities we serve.
