Enhancing readiness through partnership and training. The RSAF's Air Force Medical Service (AFMS) recently conducted its inaugural inter-ministry Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) with the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID), where the RSAF conducted a simulated Aeromedical Evacuation (AME) of a High Level Isolation Pathogen (HLIP) patient. The exchange combined ground-based training with a flight aboard the A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT), where participants managed a simulated HLIP patient using the RSAF's Portable Medical Isolation Unit (PMIU). Through hands-on training and discussions, AFMS personnel and NCID specialists shared expertise and best practices in infectious disease management and AME operations. Such collaborations strengthen our ability to safely transport and care for patients while enhancing medical readiness for a wide range of operational contingencies.
