Why are geomembranes so important in hydraulic engineering projects? Geomembranes do more than just ‘waterproof’. They fulfil essential functions: ✔ They reduce or eliminate the infiltration of liquids into the ground ✔ They prevent groundwater contamination ✔ They protect supporting structures from erosion ✔ They allow liquids to be stored safely In simple terms: they are the final barrier between a controlled system and the natural environment. Their use became widespread between 1980 and 1990, although the first PVC-based developments date back to the 1940s. Today they are standard in: ✔️Agricultural and industrial ponds ✔️Hydraulic infrastructure Without them, many operations would simply not be environmentally viable. #RENOLITALKORPLANGeomembrane #CivilEngineering #Waterproofing
