Did you know your coffee grounds don't belong in the general waste bin? Coffee grounds are classified as organic waste, but many cafes and businesses don't realise this. Every week, valuable organic material is sent to landfill instead of being recovered and given a second life. Here's the bit that really matters: when organic matter breaks down in landfill, it produces methane - a greenhouse gas around 28 times more potent than CO2. A cafe going through 20kg of beans a week sends around 2 tonnes of ground coffee to landfill a year, releasing close to 4 tonnes of greenhouse gases in the process. This is exactly why we exist! We collect used coffee grounds and chaff from cafes, roasters and offices across Melbourne and Sydney, and deliver them - free of charge - to local gardeners and community gardens. If you're a cafe, roaster or business wanting to turn this waste into something useful, get in touch today 💚
