This photo really moved me yesterday. Two aunties in saris swearing in America’s new Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy Senators Mazzie Hirono (D-HI) and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) said they would block any of President Biden’s nominees because there was no AAPI representation among his 15 secretary-level cabinet members. They have now backed down, saying the White House has reassured them there will be representation. Sometimes we also have to step back and see how far we have come. This photo and the senators’ actions this week were big moments. #stopasianhate
