Mud pulse telemetry has been the industry standard for decades. It works by sending pressure pulses through the drilling fluid, at typical speeds of 1 to 20 bits per second. For context, that's slower than a 1990s dial-up modem. Wired drill pipe transmits data through a physical conductor in the pipe itself at speeds exceeding 56,000 bits per second. A step change, not an incremental improvement. The technology to close this gap exists. The question is how quickly the industry moves to adopt it.⏱️
