I'm a big Portland Thorns FC fan (#RCTID) and love to sit in the Riveters section. If you've never experienced it, think drums, chants, flags, and one of the most welcoming, inclusive communities you'll find anywhere. It's the kind of environment that restores your faith in humanity. Last week, I decided to try something different. I sat high above midfield with a bird's-eye view of the entire pitch. It was cool. I could see every formation playing out in real time and came away with a much deeper appreciation for the strategy of the game. But I also realized how much I missed being part of the thing that makes Providence Park special. The view from above was incredible. I could see everything, but I was mostly observing. In the Riveters section, I’m helping to create the energy, the momentum, and the atmosphere that make the experience what it is. There's a leadership lesson in that. Sometimes you need the elevated perspective to understand how the pieces fit together and think strategically. But culture isn't built from the top row, and momentum can’t be created from a distance. At some point, you have to get into the crowd, roll up your sleeves, and contribute to the thing you want to exist. That's always been the part I enjoy most, so I’ll be back in the Riveters section for the next match!
