I was devastated last night, waiting for my daughter at dance class, when I saw the news of the signed MOU with the Alberta oil industry and Steven Guilbeault's resignation from cabinet. And now I'm sitting here numbly resharing the comments of everyone else who is also devastated. I'm devastated, and betrayed, but there is a tiny drop of hope in Guilbeault's resignation from cabinet - the sort of calling out that we so need, the clear recognition that this MOU is the worst kind of greenwashing, the awareness that at least this one politician who I've always admired is not going to stand for this almost laughably misguided commitment to the fossil fuel industry, not to mention step backwards from the work of true reconciliation with Indigenous peoples in BC and across the country. But it's obviously not enough. There are so many people across Canada, including in Alberta, who want to put our wellbeing and our children's wellbeing first, and invest in real nation-building, housing, and renewable energy -- not throw taxpayer money down a well of destruction. Let's raise our voices.
