The floods in Pakistan are the worst possible example of how far we have come in exploiting the nature beyond repair. In pursuit of the absudities forced upon us by the rise of capitalism and Western notions of development, we have sacrificed elements most essential to our survival. We have destroyed our land, polluted our rivers, cut down our forests, made species disappear and wiped out whole eco-systems. Indigenous communities are the least contributors to climate change and yet they pay the heaviest price. It is time to unlearn the development models based on extraction of nature and polluting of ecosystems. Let's go back to communiities who have spent centuries learning their sorroundings and have existed in complete harmony with the nature.
