Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, in collaboration with Herbalife International India Pvt. Ltd., has launched the Herbalife–IIT Madras Centre of Excellence on Plant Cell Fermentation Technology — India’s first dedicated facility focused on translational research and innovation in plant cell fermentation. The Centre aims to advance sustainable biomanufacturing by enabling the scalable production of herbal biomass, enriched herbal extracts, and high-value phytochemicals. Equipped with customised plant cell bioreactors, advanced analytical platforms, and pilot-scale processing facilities, it will bridge the gap between laboratory discoveries and industrial applications. Envisioned as a national hub for research, innovation, technology transfer, entrepreneurship, and skill development, the Centre will foster academia-industry collaborations and support the development of next-generation plant-derived health and wellness products. The initiative aligns with the national visions of BioE3, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and environmentally sustainable manufacturing, while strengthening India’s position as a global leader in commercial plant cell fermentation and sustainable biotechnology.   Dr. Nallathamby KALAISELVI.N, Prof. Kamakoti Veezhinathan; Shri virendra Tiwari, Mr Ajay Khanna, Prof. Ashwin Mahalingam; and Prof. Smita Srivastava #IITMadras #BiotechnologyInnovation #SustainableBiomanufacturing #PlantCellFermentation
