To mark the publication of RDSBL’s Dr Tonny Raymond Kirabira’s new book, Transnational Networks and Justice in the Global South: Comparative Examination of African and Asian Contexts (Springer Nature, 2025), the Centre for Justice, Law and Society (CJLS), in collaboration with Legal Action Worldwide (LAW), hosted an International Law Symposium on Transnational Networks and Accountability. The event opened with remarks from RDSBL's Barry Collins, Head of the Law Department and Dr Annalisa Meloni, Co-Director of CJLS, welcoming a full courtroom of attendees. The keynote address was delivered by Sir Howard Morrison KC, who reflected on the challenges facing international justice. He argued that structural issues within the global legal system, particularly the veto power within the United Nations Security Council, continue to limit accountability, warning that without long-term political reform, conflicts such as those in Ukraine and the Middle East will keep undermining international justice mechanisms. The panel discussion, chaired by Dr Tonny Raymond Kirabira, brought together leading practitioners and scholars, including Antonia Mulvey (Legal Action Worldwide), RDSBL's Professor John Strawson, Professor Chris Dolan, Dr Dr Miracle Chinwenmeri Uche, Dr Paul Bradfield, Tun Khin, and Sara Segneri. Speakers highlighted the importance of collaboration between courts, NGOs, academics and survivor communities in advancing accountability. The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where attendees raised thoughtful questions on the future of international accountability and the role of transnational cooperation in addressing contemporary conflicts. We extend our thanks to all staff, students, and guests who joined us for this timely discussion and contributed to such a full and engaged courtroom. #InternationalLaw #Justice #LegalAction #HumanRights #UEL #CJLS #RDSBL
