Last week in Toronto, we proudly sponsored the First Nations Major Projects Coalition (FNMPC) Conference, a national gathering advancing Indigenous participation in Canada's major projects and economic development. Trevor Gardner, Head of Global Investment Banking Coverage, moderated a panel examining Stonlasec8 Indigenous Alliance LP as a milestone in Indigenous ownership of critical energy infrastructure and the first deal backed by the Canada Indigenous Loan Guarantee Corporation (CILGC). Chief David Jimmie (Squiala First Nation), Chief and CEO of Squiala First Nation, President of the Ts’elxweyeqw Tribe, Chair and President of Stonlasec8 Indigenous Alliance, Emily Black, Vice President, Corporate Strategy and Power, Enbridge, and Kristan Straub (Henvey Inlet First Nation), President & CEO, Canada Indigenous Loan Guarantee Corporation, discussed how the deal was structured, how financing was secured, and, critically, how 38 First Nations came together around a shared governance and benefits model. That momentum is something we're proud to support. At the conference, Dave McKay announced our new Indigenous Advisory & Finance Practice, a dedicated effort to expand advisory services, financing, and capacity-building support for Indigenous-owned major projects across Canada, including finance-leadership circles launching this fall. We look forward to growing these partnerships and the opportunities they create for communities across Canada.
