Future Cabinet Secretary in the making…? Yeah, not for me! But will we ever see a visibly Muslim woman in such high powered positions in the future? We do have headscarf-wearing women pioneering in industries such as medicine, education, and law. But every industry has scope to do more to represent the people we serve, including government and politics. It would be naive to suggest otherwise! Some of the most talented, most intelligent and wise, women I know are visibly Muslim. I know the next generations of Muslim women are coming through, and they will make their way up the ranks. So get ready! And even if it’s not in my lifetime, I do believe one day there will be someone who looks like me in the most senior Civil Service positions, and like every civil servant, working extremely hard to make life better - for everyone. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working for Simon on events, and I have worked with Chris in a previous life in DfE and on events too. I’m glad we are in good hands. 🌙
