Imagine being three years old and struggling to hear your teacher, your parents, your friends. Glue ear is one of the most common causes of hearing loss in young children, and for many it goes unnoticed at exactly the age when listening and language matter most. Dr Tamsin H. Brown has dedicated her career to changing that. As a paediatrician and co-founder of Hear Glue Ear, she has been working with Raspberry Pi to develop bone conduction headphones that are simple enough for a child to use and affordable enough to reach the children who need them most. She recently sat down with Cambridgeshire Deaf Association to talk about her work and why she cares so deeply about it.
