Lucas Rieffel runs a small three person operated winery in Mittelbergheim, Alsace. Like his father he farms his vineyards organically. He wishes to turn biodynamic in the future, but due to the extended labor pressure in this practice, he is not able to pursue it at the moment. The use of screw caps is an effort to minimise the addition of sulfur dioxide. His family has lived in Mittelbergheim for multiple generations and their house dates back to the 15th century, where most of the village's stone houses were built in beautiful German Renaissance style. Alongside the half timbered houses, the stone houses were built by prosperous farmers, who used the digged out underground stones from the cellars as building materials. More than 80 15th century stone houses grace the adorable Mittelbergheim village to this day.
