Driving growth & partnerships in Biosolutions | Bridging Science & Business | Unlocking value in B2B Specialty
Fruit pomace, coffee pulp, brewer’s spent grain, whey, nut press cakes, meat & seafood byproducts: in many factories these are disposal problems. Yet chemically, they’re rich in fibers, proteins, lipids & bioactives: exactly the building blocks we pay good money for elsewhere. What’s changing now is that we finally have the tools to treat these side streams as biorefineries. On the science side, we see: ✔️Enzyme‑assisted extraction that boosts yield of polyphenols, fibers & proteins from by‑products while cutting solvents & harsh conditions. ✔️Fermentation that upgrades side streams into prebiotic‑rich ingredients, bioactive peptides, organic acids & natural preservatives. On the business side, there’s momentum: ✔️Upcycled ingredients & products are an emerging market driven by sustainability commitments & consumer demand for “better for me, better for the planet” foods. ✔️For manufacturers, converting low‑value side streams into higher‑margin ingredients changes the P&L ✔️For ingredient buyers, upcycled options can provide functionality & a credible climate narrative at once. Of course, it’s not all shiny: ✔️Variability in raw material, regulatory uncertainty around “waste” & food safety & logistics for wet side streams are very real constraints. ✔️And consumer perception needs careful handling; “upcycled” & “circular” land much better than “made from waste”. This is where biosolutions make the difference between a nice concept slide & a scalable value chain. They help: ✔️Stabilize & standardize side streams ✔️Unlock more value per tonne through higher yields & targeted functionalities ✔️Lower environmental footprint compared with purely thermo‑chemical routes If you’re an ingredient buyer, food manufacturer, or working in sustainability and innovation, the real question is which of your side streams is ready to become the next valuable ingredient and the biosolutions that can help unlock that. #biosolutions #foodwaste #sustainability Novonesis #LivedInTheField
