Last week I was really lucky to be invited to Wimbledon. 🎾 Beyond the sheer beauty, class, and energy of the grounds, one massive shift stood out to me: while the chair umpires remain, the 300 line judges are permanently gone, ending a 148-year tradition. In their place, every single court now utilises Hawk-Eye Live. Here’s how it works: • Real-time precision - an array of 12 to 18 high-speed tracking cameras monitors the ball constantly • Instant calls - when a ball goes out, a computer triggers an automated audio announcement within a tenth of a second The result - a system that’s objective, incredibly accurate, and entirely free of human error. For the first time, players can't argue with a bad call or let frustration cloud the game. It reminded me of watching recent football matches including the France vs. Paraguay match, those moments where you realise technology can simply make the right call faster and fairer than the human eye ever could. Does this mean humans are obsolete? Absolutely not. Humans are indispensable because we bring a mix of emotional intelligence, empathy, and nuanced judgment. But, when technology is used well, it doesn't replace us - it elevates us. It handles repetitive accuracy so we can focus on the big picture. At Morrisons, this is exactly how we’re embedding AI into our culture. By automating routine task execution, we can free up our incredible colleagues to focus on what technology can never replicate: genuinely supporting, smiling, and connecting with our customers. 🛒😍🙂🤖 What do you think? Was Wimbledon’s decision the right move? And how are you looking to leverage AI to empower your teams?
