Built in 1026 CE by King Bhima I of the Solanki dynasty, this protected site is dedicated to the Hindu Sun God, Surya. It features stunning Maru-Gurjara style architecture, a massive stepped reservoir, and a pillared assembly hall. 🏛️ The Three Main SectionsThe temple complex is divided into three distinct, intricately carved elements: Surya Kund (The Reservoir): A massive, rectangular stepped tank containing 108 miniature shrines. Its geometric precision and tiered steps create a mesmerizing pattern. Sabha Mandapa (Assembly Hall): An open, pillared hall featuring elaborately carved pillars depicting the 12 forms of the Sun God, along with scenes from the epic mythological texts of the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Gudha Mandapa (The Shrine): The main sanctum. It is designed so that the first rays of the rising sun illuminate the idol of Lord Surya during the equinox. ✨ Highlights & ActivitiesEquinox Illumination: During the equinoxes, the rising sun's rays perfectly align to strike the inner sanctum.3D Projection Mapping & Lighting: Visitors can enjoy a one-of-a-kind solar-powered 3D projection mapping and heritage lighting show in the evening, inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi.UNESCO Consideration: The temple is currently on the tentative list for UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
