And that’s a wrap! This Tuesday, I successfully defended my PhD thesis. It’s been a long and rewarding journey — both academically and personally. Together with my research colleagues and partners, I explored mechanisms for the financial participation of citizens and municipalities in wind energy projects. Our ideas have since found their way into the German Renewable Energy Act (EEG) and state-level legislation, influencing the vast majority of onshore wind projects across Germany. We also examined remuneration mechanisms for wind turbines, and had already highlighted the advantages of Contracts for Difference (CfDs) some time ago.
