A Douglas Shire Council decision earlier this year has seen partial approval for regeneration on former cane land, with much of the area still classified as “priority agricultural land”. Our original proposal would have supported large-scale restoration across these unused properties, reconnecting rainforest between the Wet Tropics and the Great Barrier Reef catchment. The proposal received strong community support, including from Traditional Owners, the Eastern Kuku Yalanji people.
