Tackling child labor in agriculture requires more than identifying cases. It means going deeper—addressing poverty, limited access to education, and reliance on family labor during harvest. In the coffee-growing communities of Uganda's Rwenzori Mountains, that work is underway. Through the Rwenzori Education, Livelihoods, and Gender Project, we're working across the Kasese District to tackle the root causes that place children at risk—alongside our partners Community Empowerment for Rural Development-CEFORD Uganda, Kyagalanyi Coffee Ltd, RVO, and Nestlé Nespresso SA. The results from the first year speak for themselves: 🌱 Child labor risks among children aged 5 to 17 decreased from 44.5% to 30% 🎒 School attendance grew from 4,999 to 8,259 learners across 13 schools ☕ 1,000 farmers trained in regenerative and climate-smart coffee production 💼 550 households supported with alternative income-generating activities 🤝 20 community child protection committees now operating at parish level Child protection is a shared responsibility. It takes communities, farmers, businesses, and governments working together, not just to respond when risks arise, but to build systems that prevent harm in the first place. On this #WorldDayAgainstChildLabor, we remain committed to that long-term work. 💚 #RainforestAlliance #EndChildLabor #ChildProtection #HumanRights #Uganda #SustainableAgriculture
