Here's something that doesn't get said enough: You cannot have a sustainable supply chain without sustainable livelihoods for the people working in it. 4 out of 5 people living in extreme poverty live in rural areas. Most of them farm for a living. They grow the coffee, cocoa, tea, and bananas that global supply chains depend on, often without safe working conditions, fair wages, or basic legal protections. For nearly 40 years, the Rainforest Alliance has worked to change this through our certification program, landscape and community programs, and advocacy for stronger human rights due diligence legislation. Our approach goes beyond prohibition, requiring farms to actively assess and address human rights risks, establish grievance committees, protect migrant workers, and make measurable progress toward living wages. When workers thrive, everything around them does too. More productive farms. Stronger communities. Land that's genuinely cared for rather than extracted from. In short: everyone benefits.
