80 years ago, hope arrived by rail 🚂 In July 1946, the first CARE packages arrived at Vienna’s Franz-Josefs station by freight train. Filled with essentials such as tinned food, coffee, sugar, and powdered milk, they supported people rebuilding their lives after the war. The railway played a crucial role in connecting international aid routes with local distribution centres across Austria. By 1955, more than one million packages had reached the country. Today, CARE continues to support those affected by conflict, disasters and food crises worldwide, serving as a powerful reminder that reliable transport and international cooperation remain vital when help is needed most.
