Disappear for the next 6 months and come back with: “I’m proud to be joining Amazon as a QA Engineer in Bangalore.” “I’m proud to be joining Google’s new Hyderabad office as a QA.” “I’m proud to be joining Microsoft Pune as an SDET.” Doesn’t matter if it’s 5, 15, 20, or 50 LPA — nothing is easy. Every offer you want will demand consistency, focus, and a real strategy. Here’s a flexible roadmap you can follow if you’re going into QA / SDET 👇 Step 1: Software Basics → Brush up OOPs, data structures (arrays, strings, stacks, queues). → Practice coding in one language (Java/Python/JS). (You won’t be asked to build an app, but you must think like an engineer.) Step 2: Manual Testing Foundation → Learn test case design techniques, test planning, defect lifecycle. → Practice exploratory testing on real apps (Swiggy, Zomato, Flipkart). (This builds your QA mindset — spotting risks where others don’t.) Step 3: Web Basics (HTML, CSS, JS) → You don’t need to be a frontend dev, but you must know how pages render. → DOM, forms, events — these will help you in UI automation. Step 4: API Testing (Postman + Rest Assured) → Understand HTTP, status codes, headers, auth. → Write test suites in Postman. → Then pick Rest Assured (Java) or Supertest (JS) to automate APIs. Step 5: UI Automation (Selenium / Playwright) → Learn locators, waits, page object model. → Build your own small framework from scratch. (This is where most QAs stop. Don’t.) Step 6: CI/CD & Git → Learn Git basics (branching, commits, pull requests). → Push your framework to GitHub. → Use Jenkins/GitHub Actions to run tests on every build. Step 7: Databases (SQL) → Learn to write queries, joins, and aggregations. → Test data integrity. Validate backend against UI/API. Step 8: Performance & Security Basics → JMeter / k6 for load testing. → OWASP basics: XSS, SQL Injection. (Even knowing fundamentals makes you stand out in interviews.) Step 9: Projects & Portfolio → Automate an e-commerce flow (login → add to cart → checkout). → Write an API test suite for a public API. → Document and push to GitHub. (This becomes your resume booster.) Step 10: Interview Prep → Mock interviews: scenario-based Qs like “How would you test a payments system?” → Debugging rounds: flaky tests, CI failures. → Communication practice: explain risks, strategies, and trade-offs clearly. Step 11: Keep Building & Sharing → Mentor juniors, write blogs, post learnings. → Quality grows when you explain it to others. You don’t need to know every tool in the world.
