Senior Fellow, Ecologic Institute - Passionate about the energy transition

🚨 Our New Policy Brief Out Today🚨 “Europe’s energy security on the path to climate neutrality. Devising a resilience strategy for the mid transition” by Agora Energiewende and Ecologic Institut - which I am proud to have co-authored. 👉 Main Takeaway : #energysecurity and decarbonisation reinforce each other, if Europe adopts a forward-looking, adaptive strategy. Key messages: ▶️ The EU should rethink energy security in light of increasingly renewable, decentralised and electrified energy systems. ▶️ The EU spent € 1.3 trillions on fossil fuel imports in just three years. Thereby funding foreign, and often adversarial, actors. ▶️ A renewables-based system built on domestic capital stock is inherently more resilient than the legacy system reliant on fossil fuel imports. ▶️ As the energy transition advances, the core energy security issues shift to power system stability, cybersecurity and industrial resilience. ▶️ Unlike fossil fuel supply security, these goals can largely be met through domestic policies. ▶️ Achieving them affordably requires EU-wide infrastructure planning, smart use of green molecules where they are most needed, stronger circularity, and a massive expansion of domestic renewables and energy storage capacities. ▶️ A coherent strategy that integrates these elements can cut costs, strengthen resilience, drive decarbonisation, and underpin open strategic autonomy. 👉 here the full Policy brief: https://lnkd.in/eY6CJdAX I am honoured to have worked with lead author Marco Giuli and co-authors Frauke Thies and Krisztina Zálnoky.
