In CAA, proteins that are also known from Alzheimerโ€™s disease build up in the blood vessels of the brain. This can make the vessels fragile and increase the risk of brain hemorrhages. The international #TRAFFIC project aims to better understand how CAA develops, how it damages blood vessels, and how it can be detected earlier. That early detection is important, because by the time symptoms appear, the disease may already have been developing for years. The project brings together researchers from Radboudumc, Boston University, and five other international institutes.
