✨ As the PhD Council represents all PhD candidates at Radboudumc, we think it’s important that you know our faces. ✨ Today, we would like to introduce you to our member Marlie Besouw 👋 Marlie is currently in the 3rd year of her PhD 🎓 at the Department of Medical Imaging. Her research focuses on the clinical validation and implementation of commercially available AI in radiology and radiotherapy 🧠💻🔬. What Marlie enjoys most about her PhD is the flexibility and variety in her work ✨. Working on multiple projects at the same time can sometimes be challenging, but she also loves the diversity it brings. The most difficult part for her? Knowing when a project is truly finished and “good enough”! Marlie joined the Radboudumc PhD Council in January 2026 📅 and is now part of the Career Event Committee 💼. She wanted to join the council because she believes it is important to guide and support PhD candidates throughout their journey 🤝 and to contribute something meaningful beyond her own research. Within the council, Marlie hopes to help motivate and support PhD candidates ❤️🩹, especially regarding mental health and career orientation after the PhD. Attending the career event herself gave her valuable insights, which inspired her to join the committee and help others navigate similar questions 🌱 Her life motto? ✨ “Be kind and stay true to yourself.” She strongly believes that small acts of kindness can brighten someone else’s day, and your own too 💛 Outside of work, Marlie loves photography 📸 and enjoys exploring all kinds of creative hobbies 🎨🧵, from painting and crafting to cooking, baking 🍰 and board games 🎲. At the top of her bucket list are trips to Japan, New Zealand and Canada. And in 20 years? She hopes to continue developing her skills and enthusiasm for new things, wherever that may lead her 🚀 👉 👉 Would you like to know more about Marlie or her role in the PhD Council?
