Four kids. I compared every checklist. It cost me years of trusting my own instinct. You're running that same comparison right now. Grades, activities, whose child is ahead. None of it measures the thing that actually predicts success. Harvard tracked the same people for over 75 years. Chores were linked to success and happiness in adulthood. But self-esteem was the strongest link of all. Save this before you compare one more checklist. 7 signs your child is already thriving: 1. Owns a mistake before you catch it ↳ Admits it fast, no excuses. 2. Asks for help without hiding it ↳ Raises a hand instead of guessing. 3. Tries the hard problem again ↳ Chooses effort over giving up. 4. Sits with a friend who's upset ↳ Notices someone else's bad day. 5. Loses a game and plays again ↳ Handles losing without a meltdown. 6. Talks about their day unprompted ↳ Offers the story before you ask. 7. Says no to what everyone else is doing ↳ Trusts their own judgment over the crowd. Parenting felt like a competitive sport. So much advice. So many experts online. I knew my own values. I still second-guessed. I compared myself to other parents constantly. I wondered if I should push harder academically. Then I stopped. My family values became my compass. Not a checklist. Not another parent's highlight reel. When your compass feels right, trust it. Comparing to other families measures nothing real. That quiet instinct already knows your child best. Which number did you read and think: that's mine? ♻️ Repost for the parent comparing their child to everyone else's. 🔔 Follow Rachel Vecht to trust your own judgment.
