GPS World mentions on 30 June 2026 that Galileo has introduced its new E5a Quasi-Pilot (E5a-QP) signal on 12 satellites, enabling faster and more energy-efficient GNSS signal acquisition for smartphones, IoT and smart-city devices. The new signal can reduce acquisition time by up to 3×, lower receiver processing requirements by 8×, and improve resilience against spoofing and jamming by supporting acquisition directly on the E5 band. The deployment is a first step toward even more advanced Quasi-Pilot capabilities on future Galileo Second Generation satellites.
