The city has changed around it, but ANZAC Square remains at Brisbane’s heart. These beautiful photos are from the QUT Digital Collections, a public online resource cared for by the QUT Library to help preserve Queensland’s history. The right photo was taken by Jack Bain in 1930 – the year the square opened and became Australia’s first state ANZAC memorial. The left photo, taken by Mark Coleman/Brizzypix two years ago, shows how it now nestles within the Brisbane CBD. ANZAC Square is home to the Shrine of Remembrance and Eternal Flame, which are the focal points for Brisbane city’s ANZAC Day dawn service tomorrow morning. Lest we forget.
