🌍 It really does take a village to raise a child! The African proverb reminds us that raising children is a collective responsibility beyond just the immediate family. It also explains our support for the African Village, a community-led program that helps our African youth and families connect, learn, and access support when they need it, including at-risk youth. Funded by the Queensland Government, the African Village uses cultural activities, mentoring, and community support to assist young Africans early—before issues at home, school and with the legal system escalate. As part of a trial, instead of reporting to government the conventional way, program mentors and community members give verbal presentations at Brisbane community centres. During these presentations they share program data and personal stories and provide feedback and recommendations on current initiatives. At a recent presentation in Geebung, representatives from Multicultural Affairs, Education, Corrective Services, and TAFE heard powerful stories of: 🗣️ Young people overcoming challenges and staying on the right path. 🗣️ Students and teachers bridging cultural divides. 🗣️ High-schoolers confronting racism and discrimination with courage. The African Village is proof of the power of community, culture, and belonging. It’s a reminder that when we come together, we can create brighter futures for our youth. 👏 Huge thanks to Village Support Ltd and Queensland African Communities Council for leading this life-changing program. Let’s celebrate the village that’s making a difference! #ItTakesAVillage #CommunitySupport #YouthEmpowerment #DeliveringForQueensland
