A breakthrough from UQ researchers could reshape schizophrenia treatment. Led by Professor Darryl Eyles, the team has designed and completed pre-clinical testing of a new delivery vehicle for clozapine — one of the most effective antipsychotic medications. “Our pre-clinical studies demonstrate that a thermoresponsive “sol–gel” formulation of clozapine, administered through the nose, can achieve antipsychotic effects at a fraction of the standard oral dose,” Professor Eyles said. This innovation could open the door to more effective treatment with fewer side effects.
