Congratulations to QBI’s Professor Barry Dickson, who has been elected as an International Member of the United States National Academy of Sciences, one of the highest honours in scientific research. Over a remarkable 30‑year career, Professor Dickson has reshaped our understanding of the brain. He is internationally recognised for his pioneering work mapping the brain of the fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster), charting more than 130,000 neurons and 30 million synapses, to uncover how neural circuits drive decision‑making. This recognition follows his election as a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2024, making this a remarkable period of international acknowledgement of his contributions to neuroscience.
