Two Year 11 QE students reached the finals of the Great British Economics Olympiad! - Making it this far is an incredible achievement — progression through each round required a perfect score! Congratulations to Jonas Dawit and Adithya Navaneethan who both achieved 100% across two knockout rounds to secure their place in the finals of this prestigious national competition. The Great British Economics Olympiad (GBEO) is a nationwide challenge designed to spark interest in economics and identify future leaders in the field. Across three stages, students develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios. Stage 1: Jonas and Adithya powered through 50 rapid-fire questions in just one hour — both scoring a flawless 100%. Stage 2 (Semi-finals): A tough financial literacy round with 25 challenging questions — and once again, both students achieved 100%, placing them in the Top 25 in the UK and earning a spot in the finals. Stage 3 (Finals): Students presented an economics business case to leading economists and professionals including Joe Mayes – an award-winning reporter for Bloomberg News, and author of the bestselling book. ‘Can you Run the Economy?’ Students received a copy of the publication as part of their goodie bag! Although they narrowly missed out on selection for the International Economics Olympiad, reaching the finals is a fantastic accomplishment — and one we are incredibly proud of! Jonas said: “The Olympiad was a really challenging experience. However, it developed my economics knowledge, and it was great to network and meet other economics minded people.” Adithya added: “…I enjoyed talking to the esteemed judges who gave valuable insights into economics and economic theory. I also enjoyed travelling to and being in Rochester.” Well done to all QE students who took part, and especially to Jonas and Adithya on their outstanding success. We can’t wait to see what you achieve next! #Economics #GBEO #QEFlourish #BeyondTheClassroom #FreeThinkingScholarship
