Inspiration for enterprising youth: Wei Siyuan (“CEO in School Uniform”) Meet Wei Siyuan, a 19-year-old student from Shenzhen whose story reminds us that ambition plus purpose can move faster than age. Wei already runs his own start-up—and he didn’t just build it for growth. Out of his business success, he donated USD 15,000 to his school’s sanitation team. It’s a powerful example of turning achievement into impact, not just headlines. His company focuses on unmanned aerial vehicles and AI-powered equipment, with the original tech lab created by Wei and his friends during junior high. Even after earning second place in the annual RoboMaster competition, he still had to navigate tough family conversations when he was asked to disclose his business activities—especially as his parents weren’t supportive at first. At 16 (the legal working age in China), Wei started waiting tables to cover rent and utilities for the lab. That kind of grit—combined with a strong sense of social responsibility—helped him keep going. From there, he aimed to build affordable consumer drones from scratch, outsourced manufacturing, and sold his first products in 2024. When his first profits came in from overseas online shops, he prioritized what mattered: paying his staff salaries. And beyond the business side, he went further—building a rest cabin for workers at his school, staying committed to uplifting “ordinary people” through accessible technology. One of his standout successes locally and abroad was an AI-powered detector for skiers, designed to coach movement and improve performance. Wei is also a fan of Lei Jun (founder of Xiaomi). At this pace, he may become a rare kind of founder: the kind who builds breakthrough tech and keeps faith with the people closest to home.
