How prepared is your institution for the age of AI? Generative AI is already mainstream in higher education, with two-thirds of academics and 62% of students using it at least weekly. As adoption accelerates across teaching, learning, research and operations, many universities face a common challenge: innovation is happening across the institution, but often without a shared framework for measuring progress and capability. For Imperial Business School, the priority was gaining a clear, institution-wide view of AI maturity. Using the QS AI Capability Framework, the team was able to assess adoption across different functions, identify strengths and gaps, and establish a common foundation for strategic decision-making. The result? A more informed institutional conversation about AI readiness, governance and future direction.
