What’s the latest on our department’s work to future-proof water security in Longreach? 💧 We’ve granted a new 500 megalitre water licence to Longreach Regional Council – helping to increase their water supply for the community into the future. This is enough water to make two billion cups of tea! 😯 The new licence is a key enabling step. It ensures council will be ready to make use of the increased water storage capacity and supply provided by their five upgraded weirs on the Thomson River, as part of the Longreach Water Security for Growth project. That’s critical progress happening behind-the-scenes to make sure the extra water delivered through the project is all set to flow to the community. And there’s more to come as we continue to work in partnership with council and the Australian Government, through the #NationalWaterGrid Fund, to deliver this important work! And that’s the tea. ☕
